Some words of warning about Hamster Breeding
Author: Hamster ClubSource: www.hamster-club.com
These are some of the most important words of warning for breeding:- Never mate brother and sister as the temperament of the pups will be affected.
- Never mate Campbell's Hamsters with Winter White Hamsters. A female Winter White is unlikely to be able to give birth to Campbell's babies, as they are too big for her. Also the Hybrid hamster pups are usually sterile.
- Do not breed dwarf hamsters in cages with bars and wire shelves. The pups are very small and can get stuck between bars and injure themselves.
- Do not overfeed pregnant hamsters, as their babies can grow too big. This can result in difficulties during the birth process. As soon as the pups are born, the mother can be fed bread and milk or porridge.
- Do not breed from any hamster that has an illness that can be passed onto their offspring.
- Do not over-breed from any pair otherwise the health of the female and that of her pups may be compromised.
- Avoid mating a female hamster after the age of 1 year old.
- Wait until the female hamster is at least 12 weeks old before her first mating.
